Alex Gooch Bakery Almond Croissant Review

Cardiff is full of wonderful local bakeries and patisseries, but how do we decide where to go? Well look not further, my go to treat to test a bakeries talents is an Almond Croissant, and I know that its a fan fav among many! This is going to be part of an ongoing series where I review Cardiffs best bakeries and most important their Patisseries 😋

Lets kick things off with Alex Gooch…

As a vegan bakery, Alex Gooch manages to create a convincing replica of the classic almond croissant, despite the absence of actual butter. Here are the details:

  1. Texture and Flavor: The almond croissant is generously sized and visually appealing. The flaky layers are reminiscent of traditional croissants, but the lack of butter is noticeable. The almond filling, however, provides a delightful nutty flavor.

  2. Butter Substitution: While the absence of butter affects the croissant’s richness, Alex Gooch compensates with almond-based alternatives. The layers lack the unmistakable buttery sheen, but the overall taste is surprisingly satisfying.

  3. Generosity: The croissant is generously filled with almond paste, creating a nutty and sweet center. The balance between the layers and the filling is commendable.

  4. Coffee Pairing: Pair your almond croissant with their excellent coffee. The coffee’s quality enhances the overall experience.

  5. Price: The slightly higher price of £4.10 reflects the effort put into creating a vegan version. While it may not match the traditional almond croissant, it’s a commendable effort.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5)

In summary, Alex Gooch Bakery’s almond croissant is a decent vegan alternative. If you’re open to exploring plant-based options, give it a try. Just manage your expectations, and you’ll find a tasty treat that comes close to the real thing.

Please note that my review is based on available information, and individual experiences may vary. If you visit Alex Gooch Bakery, I recommend trying other items on their menu as well! 🌱🥐
